We selected the Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel because of the location near the Vancouver cruise ship port. But everything about this hotel was a pleasure. The Pacific Rim is part of the luxury Canadian Fairmont chain, and we used two "Suite Night" upgrades to secure an enormous room in this hotel a discounted price. Our suite was designed with a client holding business meetings with separate bedroom, dining room, living room, full two bathrooms, wet bar, and balcony. This was wasted space for a couple, but we enjoyed the elbow room and the view of the cruise ship port. The complicated light switch and curtain system took a while to master. The Pacific Rim hotel has two Michelin recommended restaurants on site. The Asian inspired Lobby Lounge for sushi, cocktails, and live music on the ground floor and The Botanist on the second level for a quieter meal. Take advantage of the complimentary shuttle service to get you a downtown restaurant or to haul your luggage to insanely crowded cruise port on your embarkation day. Read less

Good location as described overlooking harbour and mountains. About 150 metres from cruise ship embarkation so a bustling area and like all the hotels nearby busy lobby area. However gold level facilitates a separate smooth check in on floor 20. Welcoming and helpful staff across valet parking, bell boy, and gold lounge check in and server staff. Room was very comfortable, plenty space, good bed and linens . Large bathroom (a second sink would have been a bonus). Nice views from floor 21 and no noise concerns. Minor irritation that shampoo dispenser not working on arrival and took 2 contacts with lounge reception staff to get sorted. Pleasant pool area on floor 6 and it’s heated. However it’s pretty shallow at about 3.5 feet. More a relaxing pool than serious lap one. Mid September, unless directly in sun was a bit nippy. Biggest problem ( and hence not a full five stars) is the gold lounge capacity. It’s a moderate space and has a small enjoyable outside balcony for 5 or 6 tables with nice views. About 2/3 of the venue has dining tables. The remaining area is lower seating presumably for relaxation. No obvious quiet / business area so a number of people were working and on business mobile calls . Not conducive to relaxed downtime for other guests . At breakfast and also evening canapés the facility is overwhelmed. It needs a review: either reduce demand or expand the space and the staff numbers. Breakfast both mornings of our stay were far from a pleasant and relaxing experience. Noisy and hectic . Tables not promptly cleared, waits to get the la carte order taken , lukewarm beverages, over 30 minutes for egg order to arrive. Yoghurt, fruit, butter, condiments empty and having to ask to be replaced. No bacon offered / available with egg dishes! Slowest toaster ever encountered. Whether you’re after a rapid efficient breakfast before a work day or leisurely holiday start it’s not delivering. The limited servers are trying to do a sterling job against the odds. They need extra colleagues and a second egg chef station. Evening canapés are limited. If hungry you’ll need to dine elsewhere. Alcohol is charged and self pour and honesty bar. Read less

Stayed for one night. Pluses: the location is good, close to waterfront, within a short walk to shopping and art museum, many restaurants nearby. The rooms have been updated recently and look decent, art is a bit cheap and generic, but that's nit-picking. The bathrooms are quite nice, separate walk in shower with waterfall head, Le Labo Rose 31 toiletries, good quantity of towels. Now the cons: there's no sound isolation. We stayed on 14th floor city view and you could hear crosswalk beeps in the morning, not to mention traffic signals and sirens, and I had earplugs in. But don't think you'll be resting if you book the waterfront - the seagals start making noise at 6am and don't stop, which is quite annoying. The window sound isolation is nonexistent, I actually checked if the window was open (it wasn't). Also - there's no buffet breakfast. If you don't book a breakfast package, you have to order a la carte at the restaurant, and I suggest you check the prices, plus it is extra wait and dealing with waiters in the morning. Finally, the housekeeping wasn't great, hairs in the shower (multiple), there was some weird chocolate stain on the ceiling (!) that I decided not to investigate, but looked like it should have been wiped. So, I'll keep looking for that perfect Vancouver hotel. Read less
