Fairmont San Francisco embodies the grandeur of this historic city. It effortlessly combines impeccable service with luxurious rooms and top-notch facilities. As it’s set high atop Nob Hill, you’ll enjoy great city views and can practically hop on the cable cars from outside the hotel. When it comes to eating, you’ll find some delicious local food at the hotel’s three restaurants. Why not treat yourself to traditional afternoon tea at the weekend or visit The Tonga Room & Hurricane Bar for, apparently, the best Mai Tai in the city.

Old and dated. The ambience is long gone. No handrails in the bathroom. No stand alone shower.
In room menu was uninteresting. No desert available.
Nowhere to plug in electronics next to your bedside.
Check in looked rough.
Obsolete hotel. Needs a major overhaul. Great staff however they can't make up for an aging hotel trying to hold on to its…

We lived in the city for over a decade before leaving a few years ago. We come back quite a bit, usually as a day trip but we wanted to stay overnight so we stayed here and were really pleased. Staff was professional and friendly. Service was good. Room was upgraded and had a stunning view over the city. The location is very good IMO. Walking to Union Square shopping involves a very steep descent and incline back so unless you’re used to that, you might want to take an Uber/Lyft. We are used to walking around the city and it was fine. Safe to walk. Only had bfast in the hotel and they were out of the fresh croissants so can’t comment though the yogurt w/ house made granola was good. The reason I docked them 1 star is my app showed the resort/city fee included a few things, including one beverage from the mini bar (dollar limit). That’s the only reason we took a sparkling water from there. Upon checkout, was told I owed that $8 or whatever it was from the mini bar and they did charge me. Frustrating.

Wonder experience with Justin! What an excellent employee you have behind the bar at the Fairmont in SF. He made our evening twice the experience we hoped for.
