Mayfair House Hotel & Garden

Coconut Grove, Miami

Star rating

The hotel

Mixing an intimate feel with a super-central spot in upmarket Coconut Grove, and the uber-cool styling you’d expect from a Miami hotel, The Mayfair has it all. In fact you don’t even need to venture out — the Miami scene comes to you, with the hotel’s Above Mayfair rooftop pool lounge and Sipsip Rum Bar, which features weekly Sunday pool parties, plus a late-night happy hour and a lively rooftop scene overlooking Biscayne Bay. The curved Gaudi-esque seating wall is complete with a fireplace, casual food menu, and custom cocktails. By day, the rooftop stays at the centre of the action, with its heated swimming pool and sweeping views over Miami and Biscayne Bay. Downstairs holds its own treasures, too, where the Fountain Lounge is open Fridays and Saturdays, with a live vinyl DJ on Saturdays. Mayfair Grill anchors the hotel’s culinary experience,  known for its open-fire cooking and bold South American flavours led by Chef Giorgio Rapicavoli.

Image of the Tripadvisor rating Lack of communication made for a less than stellar stay

This is a beautiful hotel in a great area. For what we paid, their failure to better communicate + other things, was inexcusable. A lot of little things that added up. This is a beautiful hotel in a great area. For what we paid, their failure to better communicate + other things, was inexcusable. A lot of little things that added up. The joke, as I will explain, was that during our stay they texted and asked how things were going. I replied not so good and they asked why. I said happy to chat when back to hotel and then let them know I was back but no followup. I even showed the front desk person the texts. He could have cared less. When we checked in we were told because of how we booked, we got comp bf and also 2 drinks plus a $100 hotel credit. We had arrived late after a long day of travel. We were hungry and while we dont usually munch from the mini-bar, we were ready for a snack. Unfortunately, of the 10 or so food items there were supposed to be there, there was only 1. So no snack. We then went up to the roof top bar and sat down at 850. We looked at the food menu and first tried to order a couple beers with our drink coupons. They were out of about half the beers. People were eating around us. At 910, we told the bartender we wanted to order some food. He aid sorry, kitchen closed at 900. WHY COULDNT HE HAVE TOLD US THAT WHEN WE SAT DOWN! He said their main restaurant was open to 945. We decided to get room service. I tried to call couple times from the bar and just got vm. Frustrating. We were forced to go down to the restaurant and order directly from them. Had similar issue calling valet. Just rang and rang and rang. Finally front desk answered. Also, forgot to mention that in the room the toilet seat was loose. Annoying, especially when using it during the night. The room has a double sink (nice) but no dedicated soap dispenser. We had to move the soap dispenser from the shower to the sink and back. They had hand lotion but had to be 100 yers old. Came out in solid chunks. Disgusting. We crashed around mid-night. Poor sleep for 2 reasons. The hotel has an open atrium and we heard noises (loud) well after midnight- yelling, laughing. I was too tired to get out of bed and call but cant believe the hotel didn’t hear. Plus, the hallways are tiled, meaning you hear anything that is being wheeled over it. WE woke up around 900. I noticed on a flyer that they were serving brunch till 200 so figured we could shower and then head down for bf. We got to the restaurant about 1015 and were told sorry, bf ends at 1000. Nothing they could or would do other than get us 2 coffees (no machines in the rooms). Again, at check-in we should have been told this. We needed ice and called and they said would be right up. To me that means 5 minutes, maybe 10 if you tell someone “right up.” 15 minutes nothing. We were tired of waiting and called back and said to just leave it in the room since we were on our way out. Don’t promise something if cant deliver. Finally, as noted above, if you actually cared about how our stay was going, they would have responded to the text they sent me or the guy at reception would actually care we weren’t happy. Im happy to share with hotel the name of the person who texted us asking how the stay was going Read less

During our stay, David helped me more than once and he was just an incredible human being. Love the atrium and the style of our room! Great location to shops, restaurants, even the movie theater! We felt very safe here and were actually attending my favorite cousin’s wedding reception and activities for the weekend. We had so much fun on the rooftop relaxing after the hectic plans all weekend! Thank you again for a perfect stay. Read less
Image of the Tripadvisor rating Wonderful stay, rowdy guests on night 2. Close to major spots, great service, comfortable beds

Room was amazing and everything about a 2-3night stay was amazing. However, the wedding guests were terribly loud and rowdy until after 4am. Im surprised that type of disruption was allowed on property so late. The previous night was okay, no issues. Close to some major spots and hotel amenities are great. Stayed in a suite!

This COULD be a great hotel. The staff is truly nice, the rooms are relatively clean and the hotel property is stunning. But issues which are unfortunate make it impossible to give this hotel a better review. They include a serious issue with hot water. Every member of our party had the same in their room every day we stayed and ended up taking cold showers. Clearly a pervasive issue and so unacceptable. The rooms are also too dark with inadequate overall lighting. The bathroom also needed an illuminating mirror. Finally, the elevators are too complex and you end up waiting constantly and need an engineering degree to use them. Could be a much better hotel. But someone needs to dial into the details! Read less
