Queen Kapiolani Hotel

Honolulu, Honolulu

Star rating

The hotel

Named after the beloved wife of Hawaii’s last king, Queen Kapiolani is something of a Waikiki landmark, paying homage to Hawaii’s majestic heritage and unique culture with a modern twist. Overlooking the sandiest stretch of Waikiki Beach, guests can enjoy stunning views of Diamond Head from the balconies of their newly renovated rooms, each and every one of them furnished in breezy Island style. As a change from the beach, laze beside the pool instead, dipping in every now and again to cool off. Although there are restaurants all around you, the hotel’s own Kulana is highly recommended, not just for buffet favourites but for its sweeping panoramic views! Pre-dinner, chill awhile at the Deck Pool, sipping on your favourite cocktail – a Mai Tai perhaps?

I like staying at Queen Kapiolani. I’m a repeat guest. Everybody is pleasant. The front desk staff and Bell hop attendants very nice and helpful. The lobby is clean and comfortable, so is our room. They have a restaurant with a view of Diamond Head and the ocean. QK is walking distance to Waikiki beach, Honolulu Zoo and Diamond Head, to… Read more

Image of the Tripadvisor rating The stay was just okay — the hospitality and customer service didn’t meet expectations

Our stay was okay overall, but I expected better hospitality and customer service for the price and reputation. The staff were not very friendly, and we constantly had to ask for basic items like towels — they only provide two, even though most guests go to the beach and may shower more than once a day. The body wash was never refilled, and the conditioner dispenser wasn’t functional. There was no coffee or tea provided in the room, and even after asking, it was never offered. Another downside is that they don’t provide a complimentary shower room for guests who have a later flight after checking out, which many other hotels (like Hyatt) do. Check-out was at 11 a.m., which is earlier than most comparable hotels. Overall, the stay was fine but lacked warmth and attention to detail. A bit more friendliness and consideration for guests’ comfort would make a big difference. Read less
