The hotel

When it comes to ‘you-time’, Sheraton Brooklyn New York covers every kind of pleasure: there’s the fitness centre for the health-conscious; the Starbucks® café for the caffeine-hungry; and the rooftop garden for those in need of fresh air – and the odd cocktail. Sitting among the skyscrapers of Brooklyn, the Asian-infused Kimoto Rooftop & Bar gives a nod to the East in its carefully created bar food, curated craft beers, and concocted cocktails. Throw in views over the buzzing district and towards the Statue of Liberty, and you’ll see why it’s one of the hotel’s most popular meeting spots. In fact, it’s the perfect place to head after a day exploring your neighbourhood, which packs in dining, shopping, and entertainment – much of it just a stroll away at City Point Brooklyn.

Image of the Tripadvisor rating Safety Warning: Beware of Sheraton Brooklyn's "Flat Rate" Transportation

My recent stay at Sheraton Brooklyn was unfortunately marred by a serious issue with their transportation service. We had pre-arranged a car hours in advance, as their flat rate service was advertised with a sign at their check in desk, for a trip to the bus station. However, instead of providing a licensed car service as expected, a bellhop put us in an unlicensed taxi. The driver was a disaster. He did not use GPS, and when we arrived at our destination, he insisted on a cash-only fare, which was not stated when he picked us up. When we were $5 short, his demeanor became intimidating and I felt as though he might not let me out of the vehicle, causing me to fear missing our bus, which we had called ahead to have held for 5 minutes. While the hotel's physical property was well located and had good bones, their negligence in providing safe transportation after a pre-arranged request is a major safety concern. I contacted the hotel to address this issue but they did not respond. I urge other travelers to be extremely cautious and to book a car service on their own. I tried to when our car seemed to be delayed and the bellhop insisted that I shouldn’t as it seemed he had someone on the way, which apparently wasn’t the case - I think he gave our car to someone else. I have stayed at the Even Hotel Brooklyn and at the Holiday Inn Brooklyn Downtown, and I would recommend these hotels instead. Read less

Booked this hotel partially because of the stellar rooftop bar view of NYC……would have been nice to know it is closed on Monday!

I spend a lot of time on the road and stay mostly at hotels in the Marriott portfolio. This specific Sheraton was the worst experience I've ever had in their portfolio. Stayed on a Saturday night so you wouldn't guess staffing would be an issue, but maybe it was - generally got the sense nobody there cared in the slightest about hospitality. I requested some extra towels, was told they were coming, and literally after two hours and multiple calls, they never showed up and we gave up. The club lounge had frozen waffles and frozen pancakes (that were served hot) for breakfast. The coffee machine didn't work - staff was notified, and she really didn't care to fix it. Next morning housekeeping handed me a soiled towel. We asked for the manager upon checkout - was told she wasn't there. Was given a business card to the asst front desk manager. I've emailed the hotel GM and asst front desk manager - yet to receive a response. I would stay anyplace else before staying here. And fwiw, it looks like the GM for the AC next door is the same person. Read less

I’m writing this review to share an incredibly frustrating experience at the Sheraton Brooklyn New York Hotel, particularly with the night front office staff. My brother had a reservation and was driving 13 hours from Chattanooga to NYC. I tried calling the hotel multiple times throughout the day to inform them he’d be arriving late no one answered. Around 10:45 PM, my brother discovered via the Marriott Bonvoy app that his reservation had been cancelled without any prior notice. When I finally got through around 10:51 PM, I spoke with Shayla at the front desk. She stated the cancellation was due to the credit card not being pre-authorized and claimed “multiple emails” were sent to my brother. When I asked for clarification (how many emails, which address), her response was vague and dismissive. She even told me, “It’s not our job,” when I asked why no phone call or voicemail was left despite a valid phone number on file. Later, I spoke with Daniel, who repeated the same excuse and insisted it was our fault for not responding even though my brother never received a single message. Ironically, the emails they later claimed to have sent weren’t addressed to my brother at all they were internal hotel messages between staff. As someone with 8 years in the hospitality industry, I found the behavior of both Shayla and Daniel shockingly unprofessional. No attempt was made to assist us, offer alternative accommodations, or issue a walk letter a standard practice when hotels are sold out. To make matters worse, when I asked Daniel whether Marriott's brand standards were followed, he said, “Marriott is just a name — we’re Sheraton and a private property.” If that’s the case, it raises serious concerns about how this hotel represents the Marriott brand. We were left stranded late at night with no support or accountability from the hotel staff. I’ve submitted a formal complaint to Marriott with call logs and the so-called “email” that was never actually sent to my brother. This kind of treatment is unacceptable. I urge future guests to be cautious and recommend that Marriott take a closer look at how this property operates under its name. Read less
