The hotel

Set in seven leafy acres, and with a 50-year tradition of serving guests, The Garland is relaxing, family friendly, and doesn’t skimp on style. Take in its relaxed retro vibe and comfy style. Eating at the restaurant here is, as they say, like an evening at an old friend's house. Request a table out on the deck for dining amongst the trees and plants, catch up over a drink in a cosy booth in the lounge or grab a seat at the bar. Check out the weekly programme of activities too — you could join a guided walk, watch a film by the pool or enjoy some complimentary wine tasting. All this, just minutes from LA’s hotspots. As a Preferred Hotel Partner of Universal Studios Hollywood℠, you’re just a free shuttle ride from the parks, so don't forget to purchase your park tickets too for the ride(s) of your life!

We stayed here while visiting Universal Parks & Resorts nearby, and felt lucky to have found a hotel that added so much to our vacation experience! The hotel is charming, and full of character that you don't get from the "big box" hotel chains. It's family friendly without being bland for the adults in the family (or adults without kids). Sometimes online pix make a space look better than it is IRL, but The Garland looked exactly as pictured. The pool area is great too. There's music, drinks, food, and two hot tubs - one for adults only and one for kids/families (at a lower temp). I really liked that because my son loves being in a hot tub after the pool, but I don't want him in a tub that's hot enough for adults. They play family friendly movies outdoors by the pool area at night, so you can make it a poolside dinner & movie if you like. If not, you can eat at the Courtyard which is away from the pool area. There's on-site gym and laundry - but we didn't use either. On our last day I thought about coming back again...with or without kids! Read less

The Garland was a beautiful, perfect location for our family trip to Los Angeles and Universal Studios Hollywood. The trolley they provided to and from Universal Studios was perfect and so easy. The hotel room was very clean and even though we were near the elevator, minimal noise was heard from outside of the room or from other rooms. The turn down service was perfect! I didn't have to ask for more towels or anything from the front desk. We used the restaurant for breakfast each day of our visit, which was good too. The only thing is the fruit we ordered one day was in a larger container than the second day. The hotel provided a pool and hot tub, but we didn't get the chance to jump in due to it being too chilly for us. They also had a movie of the night for kids but due to sightseeing and day at Universal, we didn't get a chance to partake in that either but it was nice to see it being offered. This hotel will be our place to stay when we return to L.A. and definitely worthy of being recommended, especially for families! Read less

The beds were extremely comfortable, the shower was powerful and it had everything we wanted. The swimming pool is lovely. There are two hot tubs, one for children and one for adults. There are always towels and sun lounges / chairs available. In the evening they show a film on a projector which is fun. The gym has everything you need and can be accessed 24/7 They do a free shuttle to Universal Studios leaving the hotel every hour and collecting from Universal City Walk every quarter past the hour up until 10.15pm. you can also book to be dropped at the Metro bus station. I would highly recommend this beautiful hotel. Read less
