The hotel

A taste of elite New York living, the residential feel of The New York EDITION sets it apart from your average Manhattan hotel. Inside an historic clocktower, near the Flatiron building and Madison Square Park, its grand interiors are swathed in neutral, warm, ivory and oatmeal. The elegant guestrooms are just as decadent, featuring oversized windows, rain showers, complimentary WiFi, 48” HDTVs, and BEATS Bluetooth speakers. Its spa is reserved exclusively for hotel guests, but there’s no keeping New York’s gastro-aficionados from The Clocktower: with Michelin starred Jason Atherton at the helm, its classic-meets-contemporary British menu is served in three exquisite dining rooms (and the Lobby Bar). The centrepiece of the dining experience is the Gold Bar, with its gilt-framed photos, 3 foot globe chandelier, glistening cocktails, and 24k gold leaf bar ensuring it lives up to its name.

Image of the Tripadvisor rating Typical Marriott quality - not a 5 star room

Serviceable hotel … but a typical Marriott - not even close to a 5 star hotel. Different vibe with lounge and restaurant - club-like and hip - but room is no better than an average Marriott. Room was very tired and worn, Black baseboards, trim, doors, nightstand showed all the streaks, dust and finger/palm prints when you first walk in. … Read more

Room was very tired and worn, Black baseboards, trim, doors, nightstand showed all the streaks, dust and finger/palm prints when you first walk in. Lots of nicks and cracks in bathroom and furniture. There is a minimalist decor, which maybe lends to it feeling like a standard Marriott and not high-end. Nothing luxury about it for the price. Should be priced like a 4 star. Upsides - good location and staff were nice. Read less

Beautiful hotel right next to Madison Square Park. Lobby bar had a great crowd and the drinks were very very good. Hotel room was gorgeous, very clean, with a great view of the park. Front desk and housekeeping also very help (when I left my toothbrush at home!)

Used to be nice hotel on a downward trend. Stayed here at least once a year over the last four years and every year it gets a little bit worse. This time was probably my last time. First, the positives: Location is great, right next to Madison Square Park. Interior design of the rooms is nice (typical Edition hotel style) Now, the negatives: The rooms are small and not well maintained. Every time I come back you see more wear and tear (scuffs and scratches on furnitures, stains on the curtains, etc). The last time I stayed here something else (HVAC? Elevator?) was broken and every 20 seconds you hear a loud thumping noise through the walls (without a break!). The elevators are incredibly slow and you’ll wait a long time for them to come. Service? Pretty much non-existent. I rarely saw hotel staff and when I checked in (Marriott Ambassador Elite member), no room upgrade, not even water on the room. All in all, what you get, doesn’t match the price tag. Read less

Loved my stay at The New York EDITION! The building is stunning, and the rooms are super sleek with amazing views. Bed was ultra comfy, and the whole place has a calm, upscale vibe that still feels warm and welcoming. The location couldn’t be better—right across from Madison Square Park and easy to get around the city. Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, especially Eli, who checked us in quickly and upgraded our room so we had a beautiful view. The Lobby Bar was perfect for a quiet cocktail. It’s definitely a splurge, but totally worth it for a stylish NYC getaway. Would 100% stay here again! Read less
Image of the Tripadvisor rating Like a Westin, but twice the price

This was my first time at an Edition hotel and I expected something much nicer, something closer to a Ritz or St Regis. Instead, I got a low-end Westin. The rooms are small, even for NYC standards. This was my first time at an Edition hotel and I expected something much nicer, something closer to a Ritz or St Regis. Instead, I got a low-end Westin. The rooms are small, even for NYC standards. I travel to NYC all the time and I know what room sizes are. The bathroom was of much lower quality than most Marriotts and Westins I've stayed at. For a hotel at this level and price, I'd expect at least some marble fixtures. The lobby is basic and loud. Elevators are dark and seem worn. (Unlike Ws which generally have dark elevators but look maintained.) Their $35 destination fee is one of the worst values I've seen. - $35 credit for their way overpriced bar. It's also much louder than even a W bar. - Laundry credit (who does hotel laundry?) - Spa credit for some small amount. The worst part? All of the credits are wiped out at the end of the day. Come in at 9 p.m.? Can't use the credits. The highlights: - Outside of the building is gorgeous. It's an architectural gem, modeled after the Campanile in Venice. - Madison Square Park is lovely. Site of the original Shake Shack. TL;DR, enjoy the view of the outside of building from the park. Stay elsewhere for half the price or stay at the St Regis for a little bit more. Go across the street to Clemente for some amazing cocktails. Read less
