The hotel

The closest hotel to the Magic Kingdom Park is the height of retro, '70s cool. The monorail enters the lobby through a 'curtain' of air to drop off and pick up. The stylish, gourmet 15th-floor California Grill restaurant offers incredible bird's-eye views over the Magic Kingdom Park (perfect for the evening fireworks), or you can meet your favourite characters in Chef Mickey's Restaurant. If you're not at the park during the day, there's a big swimming pool, tennis courts and even the option of renting a boat and cruising around Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon - and come the end of the day, tired parents can revive themselves in the cocktail lounge.

No pool due to repair. In 2 weeks I saw no one working on it. First floor door to contemporary blocked due to repair. I saw workers 1 day! Monorail very slow , faster to walk from ttc if you can. Faster to walk to and from mk instead of monorail. Pocket doors very noisy. Will wake up people if used during sleep time. Contempo very good.… Read more

There are thousands of reviews about the actual hotel. This review concentrates on the Atrium Club Level experience. There are two club levels at the Contemporary. One is on level 14. The other is called the Atrium Club and is on level 12. The staff on level 12 is friendly and do their best to be accommodating. It is sad that they have so little to work with. The food and beverage offerings are nothing compared to the other club levels. The Innkeepers Club at the Boardwalk is small but so cozy with a great variety. The Kilamanjaro Club at the Animal Kingdom Lodge continues the African vibe with both decor and the cuisine that you would find at Jikos. The Royal Palm Club at the Grand Floridian is over the top! The Admiral's Club at the Yacht Club has an evening bartender who makes specialty drinks and tells great jokes. All of the deluxe resorts, plus the Corondo have adequate to outstanding club levels. The Atrium Club has nothing in the food and beverage arena. There are several tables that seat two crammed in a small seating area. Next to that is some kind of bench seating with a TV. If it was meant for children, you can't see them from the tables. Only 1 table seats 4-6 and it is almost in the elevator- zero ambiance. It was mostly occupied with random people with laptops set up- not exactly a vacation vibe. There are the same food/snack times that all of the other clubs have. All of them have some variety of lunch offerings that include soups, salads, sandwiches and kid friendly options. The Atrium Club and a standard celery/carrot/tomato/cucumber tray and potato chips. The only sandwich was an uncrushable peanut butter and jelly. Seriously- PB&J was the only lunch offering. Other clubs call it "mid day" but here they label it a snack. It wasn't even a snack. The room cost difference between a standard room and the club level is upwards from $400 at all of the deluxe resorts. There is no reason that they cannot match the other hotels with their food and beverages. The dinner options were also a disappointment. Shrimp scampi was individually plated - 2 small shrimp on ONE strand of spaghetti. That is not a typo- it was served on those hors d'oeuvres tasting spoons. The other was a tomato based pasta rustica in a two ounce ramikin. That was it- no other choices. No garlic bread. No rolls. The salad was almost too funny. Again, it was served in a 1.5 inch plate. The Ceasar was exactly one piece of romaine lettuce 3 inches long and less than 1 inch wide. It was broken in half with a drop of dressing and one single crouton. You can't make this up- it looked like something stolen from a doll house. Actually , all of the serving plates are doll size. There are no actual plates- just 4 inch saucers for all of the food. Easy and efficient check in, we stayed on a room facing the water. IF you have a young family and your kids are light sleepers, do not face the water. At 10pm nightly there’s a water light show with very loud but cute music. Also, it would be nice if the hotel gives a heads up when they do fireworks at the MK at 11pm. We stayed at this hotel because we hadn’t tried it yet and it was on the monorail loop for Epcot and Magic Kingdom. Pros: walkable to Magic Kingdom; this was fantastic for rope drop. Pool in nice and clean; one downside was the pool food was order at the desk only and no mobile order (I mobile ordered one day and it was actually inside which wasn’t a fun surprise). Cons: the Garden building was not great. Carpet is super gross and dirty. WHY DOES THE SHOWER OPEN INTO THE COUNTER?? My kids actually cut themselves twice getting caught between the counter and the shower exiting. Back to carpets though, it was nearly impossible to roll our suitcases over all that carpet. The ceilings are SO LOW in the hallway. My husband is 6’3” and he had to duck the exit signs - we noticed one of the signs had fallen which was either a tall person or kid jumping up and slapping it. We paid for a “water view” and it’s sort of laughable we paid more for that, we ended up with mostly tree view with a tiny sliver of water. For the first time ever, our rooms weren’t ready by check in and instead we weren’t in the rooms until after 4 and then Disney wouldn’t help me move our Steakhouse 71 reservations even though we were running late because our room wasn’t ready by check-in time. Just a note on Disney promos, I thought we got free water park entry day of check in but apparently that is only some months. Had to pay nearly $300 unexpectedly. Overall, we found Grand Floridian and Animal Kingdom to be much nicer and don’t plan on staying at Contemporary again. Read less
