The hotel

They may call themselves a ‘base camp’, but that’s definitely only in spirit — not in style. Thanks to its location, Banff Aspen Lodge is favoured by those wanting to pitch up and experience all the attractions of this popular ski and spa town, from its snow sports to its famous hot springs. But its style is far from ‘base camp’. Smart and swanky, its rustic-meets-chic décor is matched by a series of extra touches that make an ‘outdoorsy’ holiday uncharacteristically comfortable, like complimentary WiFi, ski and bike storage, the coffee and cake-stocked Whitebark Café, and a steam room and sauna for soothing adventure-weary muscles. You can start your day filling up at the breakfast buffet, with its local bacon and sausages and home-baked treats. And you can end it in an outdoor hot tub with a crackling fireplace.

Excellent customer service (especially Joel). Room was very clean and comfortable with nice balcony and views of the mountains. Enjoyed the hot tubs and continental breakfast. Reasonably priced, would recommend!

Great location for wandering! The room was very comfortable and the studio set-up was very nice for early morning quiet time. The soap/shampoo were wonderful!! Breakfast was very nice. Rotated sausage or bacon every day, as were the breads and muffins. Staff was very friendly and helpful! We will stay again!!

We had a problem with our Pursuit Pass and On returning to our hotel Joel helped us again and sorted out our problem. Warning if you visit the Elk Avenue hotel (Pursuit Pass desk) avoid Claudia (the manager) she was so rude and unhelpful in every way. Insist on speaking to her superior if she is rude to you, Claudia should not be dealing with the public, especially those who have paid a large amount on your once in a lifetime holiday and find her the only person who was rude in Canada! Our stay did not begin well as we were shown a downstairs room that was dark with the lights on even on a sunny day. The manager basically said we should know the hotel layout and request a room higher up. All I asked for was a room like in the picture for the room I booked online, not an unreasonable request. We were eventually changed and the room we moved to was much better. It was spacious and did have an outside view that was reasonable. I thought this hotel was way over priced and double what we paid in Calgary and treble what we paid in Whistler. Both of those hotels were superior to this but I guess that is supply and demand. Breakfast was fine and the staff were good, can't quite figure how people say free breakfast when the room price is so high. Quality of breakfast was adequate and choice fine. Everything in the room was at a minimum for toiletries etc but decoration was good. Read less
