The hotel

You might feel like you’ve boarded a luxury cruise ship as you enter this distinctive boutique hotel, perched on the edge of the bay. The Argonaut’s original red brick walls, rich wood beams and ‘deck floors’ help to transport you back to San Francisco’s nautical heyday. At the same time, the plush décor provides all you need to settle in to your charming surrounds. Until, of course, those views of the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz lure you out to explore all that is Fisherman’s Wharf.

Great Hotel in a perfect location at Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco. The staff are really friendly and helpful, especially Luis, Sharon, Angel and Reuben at the front desk! We had a great room overlooking the Bay with a view of the Golden Gate Bridge. I highly recommend staying here!!

Stayed here for 5 nights to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. Hotel is amazing and very close to everything on fisherman’s wharf , Pier 39 to see the sea lions and a close walk to the beach . Views lovely across the bay too. Our room 309 was huge but the only issue was the smell of damp in the room. We didn’t say anything as not in the room apart from sleeping but this needs to be looked at. The bed was sooo comfy. Lovely sofa to relax after a busy day. Not really a view of the City because of a big tree in front of the window. We loved sitting by the fire in the evening in the reception area, was very cosy. Didn’t try the mermaid restaurant as lots of places on fisherman’s wharf to try. Would stay here again and we actually loved this hotel. Read less

Our family had the best time at the Argonaut! Everything was perfect. Beautiful hotel with prime location at Fisherman's Wharf. Comfortable bed and bathroom. Commode sat pretty low; shower was nice; grab bars would be helpful even for those without disabilities. The bathroom light was motion sensitive but turned off during showering! Waving arms mid-shower was not effective and the darkness without grab bars was disconcerting. Loved the minibar in the room. The halls were quiet but there was a family with noisy children in the room above us (tolerable except for the one night where they were running around between 2-4 am). See separate review for Blue Mermaid restaurant. Read less

First the good, and the bare essentials were good: The hotel is in a great location, it was clean, and the bed was comfortable. My primary complaint is that the hotel charges premium rates and failed to deliver a premium experience in many ways. I paid extra for a bay view and felt cheated. If you stood in the far left corner of the room almost behind the bed you could see a little slice of the bay. That’s very different from the “bay view room” photo on the website. The “free in-room coffee” was the cheapest kind of single-serve drip coffee maker that makes coffee not worth the drinking. We wanted to order a room service breakfast for the morning we had to leave, but found that breakfast can’t be ordered until 7 am on the morning you want to have breakfast. That made the timing impractical for even an 8 am departure. The hotel restaurant is supposed to be highly rated, but we found it very ordinary and - yes, overpriced. I don’t mind paying high dollar for a good experience, but this experience was a big disappointment. It did not live up to the hype. Read less
