Argonaut Hotel at Fishermans Wharf

San Francisco, California

Star rating

The hotel

You might feel like you’ve boarded a luxury cruise ship as you enter this distinctive boutique hotel, perched on the edge of the bay. The Argonaut’s original red brick walls, rich wood beams and ‘deck floors’ help to transport you back to San Francisco’s nautical heyday. At the same time, the plush décor provides all you need to settle in to your charming surrounds. Until, of course, those views of the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz lure you out to explore all that is Fisherman’s Wharf.

On check in as Air NZ crew your staff was exceptionally pleasant and helpful.I asked for a change of room and it was no problem for him to organise. I was only booked in for one night however the room for me is so important. My demand was met with professionalism and a sense of caring. Thank you

Beautiful historical hotel (a former cannery and warehouse built in 1907) nestled in the Fisherman’s Wharf area. Adjacent to the cable cars and the famous Buena Vista (definitely enjoy an Irish Coffee there). Blue Mermaid restaurant (within the hotel) served up good breakfast classics. Service on all levels was excellent- check in staff , complimentary umbrellas to use daily, luggage storage etc. Rooms were outstanding- spacious- I recommend treating yourself to one with a view (we had the Golden Gate Bridge). The bed and linens were high end and very comfortable. Take a moment to admire the rich history of the hotel - old photos , steel beams and brick walls. The USPS San Francisco Maritime Museum is located right adjacent to the lobby - it’s free and has very informative exhibits. The seating area with a fireplace in the lobby is nicely appointed with chairs and cozy. The hotel is in a very walkable area and had good security as well. Read less

Nice hotel in the touristy area of Fisherman's Wharf. I booked three rooms for family over three days - my treat. While the hotel was comfortable enough, the check out incidentally and tax bill was astronomical. The rooms were fully paid up but they charged on top, 14% occupancy tax, 3.5% SF tourist assessment and .19% CA tourist assessment tax as well as a $37 daily amenities fee - each room, each day! How can they get away with this. There was no free breakfast and we paid $75 a night for parking! We will be looking for elsewhere to stay and checking the add ons before another family reunion in San Francisco, avoiding this average and avericious four star hotel. Read less
