The hotel

Thailand’s first luxury tented jungle camp, Elephant Hills, combines the camp aspect of an East African safari with the Thai tropical rainforest. Located in Khao Sok National Park, Elephant Hills is just a couple of hours north of Phuket or Krabi and with complimentary transfers from most beach hotels in the region, it’s an easy combination and an unmissable experience. With a strong focus on elephant welfare and environmental conservation, Elephant Hills offers responsible and interactive experiences that are 100% chain-free, hook-free, and riding-free, allowing elephants to live peacefully in their natural environment.

Where is it

Elephant Hills is located in Khao Sok National Park in Thailand's Surat Thani Province. The Tented Camp is set in Thailand's tropical jungle environment and The Rainforest Camp floats on Cheow Larn Lake. Transfers available from Phuket, Krabi and Khao Lak and even Koh Samui. Because of their remote (and rather fabulous) location, the luxury tented camps can only accept cash payments on-site. That includes any drinks you fancy or souvenirs you fall in love with. So, be sure to bring enough Thai Baht (THB) to keep the good times flowing.

Hotel information

The Elephant Camp is the main camp with 66 spacious tents with 1 king-size or 2 double beds sleeping a family of 4 people, with 2 adults and 2 children. All tents are bugproof and have electricity, en-suite bathroom with toilet, shower and hot/cold water and a fan. Set amongst the rainforest, the camp has a swimming pool with superb view of the spectacular limestone cliffs, an open-air restaurant and bar to share your traveller’s tales. Dinners include movie presentations, dance and cooking demonstrations to keep you entertained and there is even WiFi to show all those at home what they’re missing. The Lake Camp features 20 rainforest tents each with 1 queen-size bed, or twin beds, sleeping 2 adults and 1 child. They are located over the Cheow Larn Lake, making it one of the only floating tented camps in the world. The spectacular lakes are surrounded by rainforest and towering limestone cliffs. Designed to be at one with nature, the camp is powered by wind and solar energy and uses responsible waste management, so no WiFi here, just total peace and relaxation.

From pick up at the airport til drop off at our next destination, the trip was faultless. Saow was our exceptional guide for the whole trip. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the team and they went out their way to ensure guests went away with special memories. The food was fabulous and the tents so comfy and clean. Cannot say a bad word about this trip! Read less

Wow! What an adventure. We booked the 3 day Jungle Camp and from our transfer to leaving had a ten out of ten experience. We arrived at about midday after a gruelling 5 hours travel and were swiftly checked in, then met our tour guide, Gift (she is so lovely and knowledgeable!), who gave a basic overview of what to expect during the course of the day. Our first activity was meeting the elephants, and it was breathtaking. You don’t spend a huge amount of time with them but what you do is very meaningful. The rest of the stay passed by in a blur - the activities were extremely well run with almost no time to feel tired! On the second day, during our Lake trip, we saw a wild bull elephant at the water, which was magical. The camp was spotless, and our tent luxurious, set in the backdrop of the rainforest and surrounded by spectacular plants, flowers and animals. The gift shop was very reasonably priced but you do have the opportunity to visit a few shops during the course of your stay. Read less

The national park is amazing, we really enjoyed our stay. The tents at Elephant hills were brilliant with everything you could want including fantastic comfortable beds and excellent bathroom facilities. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included, the food was amazing, and we enjoyed meeting and spending time with like- minded travellers. The staff are so nice, friendly and helpful. There is a swimming pool at the camp and a bar. The elephants are not at the camp but around 15 minutes away. We got to meet and touch them, preparing food and feeding them. There were plenty of activities arranged for us such as jungle trekking, boat trips and kayaking. Read less

Elephant hills was absolutely amazing. Highly recommend. It’s an ethical way of seeing the elephants and you can see they are very well looked after. The group leaders are all so welcoming and have such a great sense of humour. We had Pond for the canoeing and the elephant experience and Beam and Dear for the jungle treck. 10/10 experience.

We loved the elephant interaction, I was blown away by how close we were. While we didn’t wash the elephant we were very entertained watching them bathe themselves after. All of the further activities were fabulous, we loved our day trip to the lake camp, the views were stunning. The jungle trek was very fun but I do recommend study shoes and it’s a lot of up and down! The stick they give definitely comes in handy. The food was BRILLIANT! So much to choose from and great quality. I highly recommend this. It is one of the highlights of our long travels and worth the cost in our opinion! Read less
