The hotel

Set in seven leafy acres, and with a 50-year tradition of serving guests, The Garland is relaxing, family friendly, and doesn’t skimp on style. Take in its relaxed retro vibe and comfy style. Eating at the restaurant here is, as they say, like an evening at an old friend's house. Request a table out on the deck for dining amongst the trees and plants, catch up over a drink in a cosy booth in the lounge or grab a seat at the bar. Check out the weekly programme of activities too — you could join a guided walk, watch a film by the pool or enjoy some complimentary wine tasting. All this, just minutes from LA’s hotspots. As a Preferred Hotel Partner of Universal Studios Hollywood℠, you’re just a free shuttle ride from the parks, so don't forget to purchase your park tickets too for the ride(s) of your life!

Image of the Tripadvisor rating Kenneth The Shuttle Driver

Kenneth, the shuttle driver, deserves a raise. Was always accommodating for my wheelchair-bound wife our whole stay going back and forth to Universal Studios. Especially when another rider didn't want to vacate the wheelchair spot and Kenneth had to *politely* tell the guy he had to move.

Perfect getaway for Southerners California I stayed with the garland for couple of days back in 2016 and must say it was just phenomenal. Great location and easy access to United Studios, Warner Brothers, the Getty, etc

Beautiful hotel. Every staff member smiled and said hello when we walked by. The bus to Universal Studios was so easy and convenient. Pool was nice and beds were comfy. I would definitely stay here again.

A chic hotel but in a slightly strange location. We stayed in the hotel for a few days as base for a day in Universal Studios and then a couple of days in LA. First impressions were very positive, there is some great artwork around the hotel and its really well designed - a fun place to spend some time. We ate there a couple of evenings and had breakfast one day as well - all pretty good; interesting menus and reasonably priced - generally good service as well. The rooms themselves were well equipped and spacious but the NOISE! Both rooms effectively overlooked the Freeway and even with the doors and windows closed you could not escape the constant noise of the road - I am a heavy sleeper but I was still aware of it. The location of the hotel was great for Universal Studios but other than that there is not a lot in the surrounding area (and its not a particularly nice neighbourhood) so you need to make an effort to get anywhere - nowhere was in walking distance. In summary - a fun place to stay but not without issues. Read less

This 5 star review is for David who works at the front desk. Talk about excellent customer service! I was checking in with my family, which includes a 2 month old baby. We booked the specialty room with bunk beds and because room service was short on people the room was not ready. I had spoken to 2 other people at the front desk who basically told me to keep waiting even though check in was at 3p and it was past that time. I luckily got David the 3rd time I went to check and it was close to 4 by that time. He jumped into action quickly to make sure we were taken care of since he saw that I had been waiting patiently with now a fussy baby. He (without my asking) spoke to his supervisor right away and offered to put us in another room while our room got ready. Luckily by then our room was ready but cannot express how grateful I was for David who saw a mother and baby struggling and offered to help right away. Vacations are tough when you have a baby but seeing that the Garland has people who are so caring and accommodating makes it a good place for families and I will be back! Read less
