The hotel

Nestled on the beautiful beach of Flic en Flac and surrounded by landscaped tropical gardens, this relaxed resort has a welcoming Mauritian atmosphere. The outlook across the lagoon and the bay of Tamarin, with Le Morne Mountain in the distance, is impressive. Being on the west coast of Mauritius, you'll also be spoilt by amazing sunsets. The beach here is bounded by two reefs, an inner one that gives the hotel's swimming beach privacy and an outer reef where there’s a selection of complimentary water sports on offer. Enjoy the translucent, calm lagoon and keep a watch from the terrace for the dolphins that come into the bay. When it comes to dining, there's the main Tamarind Terrace restaurant, the intimate Pink Peppercorn on the beach terrace, and Spices, with its refined indoor dining room or more casual outdoor terrace. It's clear to see why this resort has a high volume of repeat guests.

Where is it

On a beautiful white-sand beach on the west coast of Mauritius overlooking the Bay of Tamarin with the majestic Le Morne Mountain as a backdrop. Near the town of Flic en Flac, with its shops, bars and restaurants. Transfer time from Mauritius International Airport: approximately 1 hour 15 minutes. Please note that if taking a seat in coach this may be longer depending on how many hotel stops are en route.

Hotel information

91 elegantly appointed suites on 3 floors. All suites with sea facing balcony or terrace, air-conditioning, satellite TV, WiFi, iron and board (on request), mini-bar*, safe, hairdryer, tea/coffee-making facilities, walk-in wardrobe, bathroom with separate bath and shower. Superior Suites are on the 1st and 2nd floors with remarkable lagoon views, and have 1 king-size bed or twin beds, sleeping maximum 3 adults.


Half Board includes:Breakfast and dinner in the main restaurant, Tamarind Terrace. Guests can also dine around at the other two restaurants at Sands and a further four restaurants at sister resort Maradiva Villas Resort & Spa with a credit towards the bill. Reservations may be required.

Deluxe Suites are the same as the Superior Rooms but located on the ground floor (some are interconnecting). They have a private terrace with direct access to the gardens and beach beyond, with 1 king-size bed or twin beds, sleeping maximum 3 adults.

Beachfront Suites are set on the ground or first floor in a premium location with direct access to the beach and magnificent views of the bay of Tamarin. They have 1 king-size bed or twin beds, sleeping maximum 3 adults.

Exclusive Suites are spacious and elegant, set on the first floor with one of the best views of the Indian Ocean. They have 2 balconies, a living/dining space and 2 bedrooms, sleeping maximum 3 adults.

Tamarind Terrace: Buffet breakfast and themed dinner buffets with Indian, Chinese, and local cuisine.

Pink Peppercorn: Intimate beachfront dining (20 covers) specialising in seafood and local dishes; reservations recommended.

Spices Restaurant: Dinner venue blending Mediterranean and Mauritian flavours.

The Dolphin Bar: Lively spot for snacks, drinks, and evening entertainment.

Dine-around guests also have access to four additional restaurants at Maradiva Villas Resort & Spa.

Live evening entertainment including Mauritian music, Sega and cultural shows. Live music from local bands at the Dolphin Bar.

The location and setting of the hotel is idyllic the pool area sneak beach well maintained and Rudi and his team make you feel very special with their high level of service special mention too for Tejasvi who was so helpful and friendly and had aspirations of becoming a mixologist . There is good training and a feeling of aspiration amongst the staff which we loved . The food is superb we were incredibly impressed by the choice available and the quality was exceptional. Thank you Alicia for arranging for us to meet the executive chef we were delighted to share our appreciation of all the hard work the staff put in . Thank you Salim for preparing a special meal for our final night . We were so well looked after Vinaye and Kamlesh endured we had a wonderful table and wonderful service and this is the buffet restaurant honestly exceptional service . Every member of staff went above and beyond to make me feel welcome and relaxed, creating an atmosphere that perfectly matches the beauty of the surroundings. The accommodation was simply stunning. My suite was spacious, impeccably clean, and beautifully designed, with breathtaking ocean views that made every morning feel like a dream. The attention to detail throughout the resort really stands out everything is thoughtfully curated for comfort and luxury. The food was another highlight. Each meal was a delight, with a fantastic variety of fresh, flavorful dishes that showcase both local Mauritian cuisine and international favorites. Dining here is truly an experience in itself. I also want to give a special mention to Sandy, one of the poolside staff. After I made the mistake of underestimating the Mauritian sun, I ended up with a pretty uncomfortable sunburn. Sandy immediately stepped in with a simple but incredibly effective remedy natural yoghurt applied to the skin followed by a cold damp towel. It worked wonders and brought instant relief. That level of care and attentiveness really made a difference to my stay. Overall, Sands Suites Resort & Spa delivers a perfect blend of luxury, comfort, and heartfelt hospitality. Our stay at Sands Suites Resort & Spa in Flic en Flac was defined above all by one thing: truly world-class hotel service. I travel a great deal and have seen many very good properties over the years, which makes it all the more remarkable when a hotel stands out so clearly. Sands Suites & Spa did exactly that. The overall standard of the hotel was excellent, the atmosphere was refined and relaxing, and the facilities, including the bar, beach, and spa; were all very good. The spa in particular was a real highlight and added greatly to the quality of the stay. What made this hotel exceptional, however, was the service culture. The staff showed genuine care for guests, handled concerns with professionalism and warmth, and consistently created the feeling that guest satisfaction truly mattered. This was not routine hospitality. It was service at the highest level. A very special mention must go to the concierge, Soudesh. He did not simply do his job well - he performed it with excellence. His attentiveness, commitment, and sincere focus on the needs of guests impressed us deeply. It was clear throughout our stay that he takes pride in his work and that the well-being of guests is of real importance to him. He made a lasting impression on us, and we sincerely hope that he will continue for many years to delight future guests in the same remarkable way. We would also like to thank Sandy, Kevin, Vinay and the many other members of staff who contributed to making this holiday such a memorable experience. Their efforts, professionalism, and kindness were a major part of what made this stay so special. For the sake of fairness, there was one small point that did not fully reflect the otherwise very high standard of the hotel: the boathouse service. The team there seemed willing, but the interaction felt somewhat less engaged and a little impersonal. This is an area where improvement would be welcome. Fortunately, this provider does not appear to be part of the hotel itself, but rather an external contractor. Overall, Sands Suites & Spa gave us an unforgettable holiday experience.
