The hotel

Greeting guests since 1914, Chatham Bars Inn is a world-famous turn-of-the-century Cape Cod landmark. With public rooms returned to their original grandeur, it’s a fabulous place to enjoy a very comfortable stay, just minutes from the picture-perfect streets of Chatham itself. Overlooking a private stretch of golden beach, we highly recommend upgrading to take advantage of stunning ocean views – watching the waves come gently rolling in across the sand is nothing short of bliss! Also highly recommended is a trip to the spa – very Zen-like in atmosphere, it’s an oasis of peace and calm, complete with an outdoor relaxation pool and Vichy Shower Room. Choose from treatments such as Summer at the Shore and Citrus Sunset, guaranteed to chase your cares away. Whilst adults are at play, children will be having fun too at their very own kids' clubs. Beach Buddies is for younger children and The Clam Diggers is for those slightly older. Both offer an exciting array of activities including swimming lessons, tennis, sailing and themed parties. There’s plenty to do in the immediate area but not to be missed is a trip to Outer Beach, conveniently reached by complimentary shuttle and hailed as one of the most beautiful barrier beaches in the world! There are also lobstering cruises to join or hire a bike and cycle (rentals available nearby) the Cape Cod Rail Trail – 35 miles long, it winds its way through some very charming towns and villages.

Property is beautiful. Staff, across the board, are amazing. I'm not typically impressed with food from most hotel restaurants, but dinner at STARS was excellent. They use fresh, local ingredients. Breakfast on the veranda was also very good.

The main building is beautiful and the views of the ocean are breathtaking. We decided to eat at the open air Veranda and were seated with an unobstructed view. Deandra (with her mega-watt smile) was our server, and she was kind, friendly and great at her job. We shared a clam chowder (!) and seared cod on creamy polenta - both were so delicious, plated beautifully and served hot! We didn’t know that she would have the kitchen split the order - two little cups of chowder with crumbled bacon on top, and beautifully presented cod on two plates. No extra charge for sharing. We have always felt that a great server is as important as the food and atmosphere and we got very lucky with Deandra. Thank you Deandra and The Veranda - we will never forget you! ❤️ Read less

We spent two nights at the Inn and our experience was mostly positive, but there are a few things we wish we had known before we went. First, this is a large property-25 acres according to the website. There are rooms in the main building where three of the four restaurants are located, but most of the rooms are in cottages strung out around the property. We had a cottage room that was on the ocean side of the road and was about 200 yards from the entrance to the main building, which is on the opposite side of the road from the ocean. This was fine in good weather, but if it was raining or cold, walking to and from the main building a couple times each day to eat would have been inconvenient. Second, the fitness center is not located in the main building, but probably 100-200 yards away in a separate building among the cottages. Third, the hotel provides transportation to and from Chatham. Use it. It is very fast and parking in Chatham is a pain. We never waited more than 5 minutes for a pickup. And despite what we were told, it is a bit of a hike to town on roads with no sidewalks, so not the best for returning to the hotel at night. Fourth, the bathrooms (at least ours) was small and had only a single pedestal sink with very little counter space. No double sink with a long connecting countertop as in most newer hotels. My wife juggled to find room for her cosmetics, hair dryer, and curling iron. Lastly, the food at the hotel is excellent, as good as any we had anywhere in town or even better. The service is top notch and the staff are friendly and accommodating. If you are considering the Chatham Arms, go for it. Just remember, it is an Historic Hotel for a reason. Read less

Extraordinary stay. The customer service was exceptional and the property is gorgeous. I would say the customer service was one of the best I've experienced in years. Bravo to the CBI!
