The hotel

Picture a white sand beach surrounded by acres of tropical grounds, with water sports galore and five different pools to cool off in. This is the Hilton Hawaiian Village. Amble over to the huge beachfront Super Pool or if you have kids in tow perhaps the family activity pool will tempt you. With more than 18 restaurants, cafés and bars, you can dine somewhere different every night too. The stay was amazing. And our housekeeper Sonia went above and beyond. She provided us extra towels without asking and extra waters all things we weren’t expecting but received and it was so very thoughtful.

We stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village for a week-long Hawaiian family holiday. We were treated with a nice complimentary upgraded suite accommodation overlooking the beachfront courtesy of Mr. David Means, Director of Rooms. Thank you :-) Upon arrival, we were immediately greeted by a Bellperson. There was also a group that just got off the bus, but a gentleman who noticed us immediately peeled away from the group to ensure we received attention despite them being busy with the group. I told him we can manage and thanked him for the offer, to which he proceeded to help his colleagues with the large group check-in. Check-in was a breeze, especially if you are a Hilton Honors member with a dedicated line for a fast check-in. I was able to get an earlier check-in. There was a nice Japanese lady who was managing and directing guests to the various open stations. There were sufficient staff at the Front Desk for the size of this large hotel. Jackie at the Front Desk was super friendly, professional, helpful, genuinely interested, and engaging. At every turn, the employees are greeting us, whether bumping into us in the corridor, the restaurants, or public spaces. On entering the room, we were greeted with the scent of a fresh room. The suite, corner room T930 is spacious. Large living space with a 3 -4 seater round dining table. There was a nice half-bath with sink and toilet in the living room. The bedroom itself is very spacious with a double sink, a separate shower and toilet, and a powder room type setup by the large closet with a spacious safety deposit box and plenty of clothes drawers and hanger spaces. We enjoyed many nights at the Tapa bar, where live entertainment is available in the evenings. You may pay for your order directly with the bar or charge the tab to your room. Every Friday evening, the hotel treats guests to a beautiful fireworks display. The hotel is dotted with many shops, including a Louis Vuitton mini-outlet and an ABC store. You will never go hungry or unfulfilled with any cravings for sweets, as there are plenty of food and beverage outlets to include a gelato shop. For most destination vacations, to a lot of people, a hotel is usually just a place to sleep while most activities happen off property. Not at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. The HOTEL is part of the destination if at all the actual destination. Read less

I paid for a Hilton expecting quality, and what I got was a room that was falling apart — broken fixtures, worn-out furniture, and a shabby feel overall. This was not worth the price I paid and definitely not the Hilton standard I expected. On top of that, the hotel was so crowded it took away from the entire Hawaii experience. I expected better from Hilton and left feeling frustrated, not relaxed. Fortunately you can do much better in Honolulu. This stay was disappointing enough that I’ll be switching hotel brands for future trips. It is time for Hotels to actually look like the pictures they post Read less

I stayed in the Diamond Head tower at the Hawaiian Village for 7 nights. Hotel was fine, but disappointing. Beach access was the best part. Pools were overall very average, mostly because they were not very big, lounge chair access was limited, and water temperature was too cold. Grounds were fine, but not overwhelming. No lush grounds or soft Hawaiian background music giving you the enjoyable Hawaiian vibe. There were many shops and it was particularly nice to have the ABC stores spread around to purchase miscellaneous things. However, places to sit around the property were so limited to enjoy your snack or beverage. With such awesome views, it would be nice to have some free chairs and hammocks placed around the property to relax. I found myself returning to my balcony or walking to the adjacent military operated hotel with plenty of chairs spread around. I attended the yoga and aerobics classes every morning and was very disappointed. A 6:30 am class is the only option, which made it a little like waking up to go to work. The classes were packed and there were not enough mats or towels unless you showed up very early. The ground was dirt and bugs were hovering. There was no pretty view and you could barely hear the instructor. The fitness club was nice, however. Our room was old and a little musty smelling. Bed was comfy, but not much extra space elsewhere. Housekeeping was friendly, but did not get service one night and not property restocked a few other days. Ice machines were handy and worked great! Room had one chair shoved in corner, so made it hard for two people to comfortably relax. Balcony was nice, but you needed to appreciate the band playing very loudly from the Tapas lounge below until 10pm every night. Air conditioning was not possible to adjust, which I usually do not find a problem because I prefer the Hawaiian breeze. However, given there are no screens on the doors, I did not want to risk the bugs and pigeons flying in. So room temperature was either too cold with air on or too hot by turning off completely, and I could not enjoy the crashing sound of ocean waves. Overall my hotel experience was disappointing. Restaurants were average and pricey. Generally there was no welcoming attitude provided by any employees anywhere other than housekeeping. Resort fee of $50 did not provide any value. I typically select the Hyatt, and definitely see the difference in standards after trying out the Hilton. Read less
