Escape to the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach — this retreat sits next to the Upper Newport Bay Nature Preserve and is ideal for a bit of walking, cycling or nature viewing. You'll be welcomed by 26-acres of lush landscaping, before the newly renovated lobby and bar area lure you in with a calm, coastal California chic theme. Directly off the Newporter Lounge, is a comfortable patio with a firewall, hanging lights and magnificent views of the bay — and those views carry through to many of the guest rooms. Take your pick from three beautiful outdoor pools: chill at the adults-only 'Indulge' pool and find a restful spot at the 'Serenity' pool, or have fun with the kids at the 'Oasis' pool. Whether your passion is shopping, dining, boating, or performing arts, you’ll find it close by. Hit the beach, take to the water on Newport Bay, or wander the shops at Balboa Island and Fashion Island. Disneyland, the Aquarium of the Pacific and Laguna Beach are just a little further away.

Not a great experience

Not great location, in the middle of nowhere. Rooms are ok but noisy. Unfortunately the hotel lost/stole a package that was delivered to me and was not helpful at all in compensating me or saying sorry or helping me find out what happened. I have to keep chasing them to work out what happened.
Smelly old expensive massive fail of an experience.

I cannot stress enough how much you do NOT want to stay here!

From the moment we pulled up, the lobby smelled like an old closet that had not been opened in years. Then the we had the experience of an unpleasant front desk rep who acted as if I were interrupting her spa day and seemed annoyed that I was with my African American wife.
Being tired…Against my better judgement I continued check in and that was a massive expensive mistake. The room was sweltering hot and smelled twenty times worse than the lobby. I was actually nauseous . Even Valet was a $40 joke on me. I did as requested and scanned the QR code to get my car when I was leaving for dinner. nothing happened so went and gave the card to a bellman who got a valet to get the car. After we left, we got a text message saying “no one was available to get our car right now.” Absolutely everything about this place is a smelly, expensive, unpleasant massive fail.
Do yourself a favor and stay at the Hyatt Regency on MacArthur by the OC airport. I left the Newporter and went there instead. Night and day difference!

Tired resort but kids loved it

Resort fee was not disclosed when reserving the rooms thru Expedia and trip advisor. $40 a day. And I was charged valet and self parking at the same time. Service was sometimes painfully slow… they seem to be understaffed. And prioritize weddings and events leaving regular guests waiting. The rooms are tired. The resort is tired. That said…

That said there is a certain charm to it. They could really “mad men” the place and it would be awesome.
The kids probably would give it 5 stars. 3 pools. Water slide. Ping pong. Shuffle board. A par 3, 9 hole golf course. Pickle ball (always closed. And too bad they didn’t keep at least one tennis court as the adjacent courts are off limits to guests).
All in all great except for the surprise final bill, and I would do it again if they didn’t charge that stupid fee or disclosed it up front. They’ll duck you at the drive thru!

Good spot with overly expensive parking
Sep 15, 2025Luke M
Nice recently renovated rooms and friendly staff but parking at $40+ per day is a rip off and needs to be made a lot cheaper for guest.
