The hotel

Mango Bay is in a great location on a beautiful beach on the west coast. We love it because it's a small, friendly hotel that exudes bajan charm. The restaurants, bars and boutiques of fashionable Holetown St. James, along with the Limegrove Lifestyle complex, are just footsteps away - and the complimentary catamaran cruise allows you to explore even more that the island has to offer.

In particular Karon, Grafton, Maria, Ally, Xavier, Sabrina, Annette and Donelle in the restaurant, Isabelle the yoga teacher and the wacky dancing barman with odd socks (Damian?). Jacky the cleaner kept our room spotless every day. The service is a real highlight of the hotel . The food was very good , varied and well peesented. The beautiful beach front setting has the most comfortable sunbeds and the ever changing blue hues of the bay are mesmerising. We also thoroughly enjoyed the free glass bottom boat trip with as much complimentary rum punch as you could drink- a great way to start the weekend! The nightly evening entertainment was first class, especially Nicole Best and Eon. Would definitely recommend if you are looking for a small, very friendly, beach front hotel in Barbados. Read less

Disappointing experience was expecting 4 + star plus but definitely no more than 3 star . Resort tired and disorganised . Bar area very small with inadequate seating for guests , bar service inconsistent with more staff during the day and less at night when more busy. Premium drinks are available but only a small selection, no fizz . Guests are expected to sit outside with the nightmare mosquito situation on hard seats with no cushions and no bar service. If there has been a down pour tables and chairs are left wet. Tables are left cluttered with glasses and bottles and are rarely cleaned away . Night time entertainment was particularly good , but enjoyment was offset by uncomfortable seating and with sun beds and mattresses stacked to the side in direct eye line. Rooms are spacious and clean but look tired with marked furniture . Food is overall quite poor and definitely not the standard you would expect from a 4 + star rating. Mostly served at the table with occasional buffet. A repeated menu with a lot of chicken , there are snack options, but a lack of communication as to where and when you can access snacks. Limited choice on buffet with bare essentials for salads, meats and bread options . Food is obviously served with a tight budget in mind. Tinned ham is served as a meat option! Plates and bowls are in short supply leaving guests waiting, only to find the waiter has brought only two to replenish the pile! Milk was often placed in cartons instead of jugs at breakfast and display cabinets for bagels and a cereal dispenser was broken with no turning handle. Serving staff although pleasant, lacked direction by senior staff and stand around doing nothing while guests are left wanting. We had a power cut whilst waiting for lunch and although this could not be foreseen , staff were unprepared with no plan B . We were left waiting for over 2 hours whilst staff didn’t know what to do, not even offering a sandwich for lunch . Beach service was ok with a flag system , plenty of sun beds available and beach towels . However , sun bed mattresses were left stacked up outside in the rain. Beach attendants would not allow you to take them when wet, but how were they supposed to dry in a pile in the shade….madness. I will not be visiting this resort again, I feel there was no attention to detail and no real consideration to the aesthetics of the resort or the comfort of the guests , so much more could have been done to improve this with more insight. Only giving this 3 Stars as not only is there building work next door almost non-stop with machines, diggers, concrete mixers, drills, jack hammers, grinders and a crane operating between 0600 and 1900 but Mango Bay itself was undertaking modifications to many rooms to add to the noise and dust. 12th time to Barbados but first time here, great… Read more

Food, got to be honest was very average and evening meals were not great. The choice was limited and most of the time served warm, there is only one restaurant but loads of great restaurants in walking distance. Rooms nice and comfy but a bit dated, probably the reason so many of them were being renovated and we had no hot water for 3 days but did get another room to shower in a bit like walking to a shower block on a camp site as it was two floors down and had to take our toiletries with us. Beach and snorkelling amazing, with good walking routes both left and right out of the hotel. Staff, 99% amazing but always get those couple who let the side down. Bar had good service but only 2 different rums, really !! and did shut down a little early !! Can't comment on the pool as never went in it. Gym small and compact but had running machines so I was happy. Probably would go back but not sure what impact the great big hotel next door will do to the place when it's open re noise and amount of people on the beautiful quiet beach, it will be interesting to see what people write on here once it is open.
