The hotel

As if this hotel wasn't luxurious enough already, the recent renovations have taken Sandals Royal Bahamian to another level - and they're ready to welcome you back to experience everything new they have to offer. The swim-up suites are the standout room type at this property, allowing you to step right from the comfort of your room straight into a gently flowing river pool with views of the ocean ahead. The Island Village offers privacy and romance and; as with all Sandals properties; the butler service will leave you not having to lift a finger. The real highlight of this Sandals hotel is the private offshore island - just jump on a Love runner and you'll be there in 5 minutes. It's basically a resort in itself, complete with beach club, pool, swim-up bar and spa experiences. Paradise: found and included. When you are feeling a bit more adventurous, there are a host of activities included in your stay so you can work up an appetite. You'll be spoilt for choice when you do get hungry though, with 10 gourmet restaurants and 2 food trucks - you'll have to make sure you stay long enough to ensure you try them all!

Our first experience at Sandals. Definitely not our last! In fact, we've already booked a future stay! Do yourself a favor and add on butler service - a little bit more - but well worth the dollars especially for a newbie. The butler handles everything! What drinks are in the in-room bar, arrangements for deck chairs or cabanas ( with a personal cooler filled with drinks of your choice )...forgot a dinner reservation - no worries - the butler will handle it! Our butler Garth - was the best! He took care of every need and concern! Other amazing staff included - Tara and Marge who took care of us daily at breakfast. Zure the finest waiter on staff! Natasha (Tasha) who is like the energizer bunny! Chiquita and Tyana who made sure any needs were addressed! No matter what you've heard - good or bad - give Sandals a try! Get a butler you will NOT regret it! Even the boat staff getting us to the private island was amazing! Last (actually first) was the chauffeur Keno - who picked us up in a Rolls Royce - was an amazing and lasting first impression! Read less

Despite the negative reviews, my husband and I decided to book a stay at sandals royal bahamian after we had an amazing stay at one of the other sandals resorts (La Toc in St. Lucia). Our experience here was the complete opposite. The only thing this place has going for it is the pretty water and view. The food is fine, not great but not the worst all inclusive food I’ve had. Don’t order anything with seafood because despite being on an island- it seems like it’s mostly prepackaged food and every seafood item we tried was very fishy. Ironic. The service is hit or miss, mostly a miss. The wait staff at several restaurants we tried while there offered poor service. One morning at breakfast we were never even offered water or coffee the entire time we ate (Tesoro, breakfast buffet). We saw waitresses tending to the other tables but she would never even turn in our direction for me to try to get her attention. I booked a tour through sandals that was supposed to be an Exuma swimming with pigs. They cancelled the tour, telling me originally over the phone it was due to the weather, however when we went to speak with a representative at the tour desk we found out that was not true and the reason it was cancelled was because the boat was being repaired. Why lie?? And if you are going to lie then at least tell your coworker so they can carry on the lie rather than sell you out. Anyways, they rebooked us for another day however told us they had to go through a third party who uses another boat and it would be roughly an extra $200 than the original price I payed. Strange but ok, I really wanted to go on this excursion so I agreed. Unfortunately, this one also got cancelled, and we found out at 9:30 pm the night before via a note left outside our room. By this time everything was closed and I couldn’t even get ahold of anyone to seek clarification. They ended up saying it was due to weather, but I will never know if that is the truth or not as I don’t trust them at this point. Sandals offers their own private island at this resort which you get to via shuttle bus that goes out several times daily. The downside is that while we were there they weren’t using the dock at the resort and had to shuttle people by bus to a different boat dock which then took you to the island. The first time slot to go to the island seems nearly impossible to get, even if you show up early to sign up for the shuttle which is extremely frustrating. So by the time you get a slot and can get over there, all the beach chairs and places to sit will be taken. Nearly impossible to get beach or pool chairs unless you go and put a towel by a spot at 7:30 am. The butlers go out super early and reserve all the good spots even though 90% of the day you will walk by those reserved spots and there is nobody there. Our room was fine, about what I expected and what was advertised. The AC in our room worked well and it was clean enough. Overall I was very disappointed and will not be returning. Probably won’t even bother going back to the Bahamas after this experience as there are other beautiful places to see and spend my money that value tourists and provide better service. Read less

My husband and I just returned from our honeymoon at the Sandals Royal Bahamian, and I honestly wish we had chosen anywhere else. This was supposed to be one of the most special trips of our lives — but from start to finish, it was a frustrating and disappointing experience. Even before arriving, I contacted Sandals several times to confirm our honeymoon package and make a dinner reservation for our first night. Every time, I was told our requests were “noted.” When we arrived, however, the resort had no record of anything, and no one seemed to care. The lack of communication and organization was shocking for a Sandals property. No one told us where to go when we landed, and when we finally got there, they asked for our credit card again even though I had already checked in online. The app didn’t work at all — completely useless. Service throughout the stay was terrible. At Le Plume, we stood waiting for 15 minutes before even being acknowledged, and once seated, simple things like coffee or sweetener were forgotten. Most of the staff acted like we were bothering them just by ordering food. I’ve never felt so unwelcome at an all-inclusive. When we went to ask about our excursion, we found out it had been canceled — and we weren’t even notified. No effort was made to reschedule, and the staff seemed totally indifferent. I actually ended up crying out of frustration. The manager we spoke to was kind, but all she could offer was a $100 spa voucher and “breakfast in bed,” which anyone could order anyway. We tried to make the best of it and booked a candlelight dinner (which cost extra), but even that was disappointing. They placed us off to the side facing the hotel instead of the beach, my steak was overcooked, and I got eaten alive by mosquitoes the whole time. The waiter was nice — the only bright spot of the night. To top it off, when we showed up for our spa reservation, they had no record of it either. It felt like every part of the resort operated with zero communication. We paid a lot of money expecting a stress-free, romantic honeymoon — instead, we got poor service, disorganization, and constant disappointment. Sandals completely failed to deliver the level of care and hospitality they promise. If this is how Sandals operates, we won’t be returning — not to the Bahamas, not to Jamaica, not anywhere. Just got back from a fantastic 10 holiday at this resort. Reading some of the reviews before we went I was not sure what to expect. I’m happy to say they were no foundation to those reviews. We had one of our best holidays ever at Royal Bahamian. The room was fantastic, with turndown every evening. Refreshments in the room were regularly replenished as were the toiletries. The food was excellent and the service was always great. I have to give a special thanks to our butlers Johnny, Taya and Sanchez. They definitely went above and beyond during our stay. We celebrated my wife’s birthday and our wedding anniversary while on resort and they truly looked after us. We arrived 24 hours after a tropical storm had hit the island and so somethings weren’t quite as they should be, it would be wrong to say much more but considering everything, all the staff were working tirelessly to bring the resort back to tiptop condition. The aftermath of the storm meant that we couldn’t use the resort jetty to get to and from the offshore island. No worries. As always Sandals adapt and overcome. Once the island opened back up we visited 3 times and were absolutely blown away with it. The offshore island had a completely different feel/vibe to it. More like a European stylish beach club. The atmosphere, the music made it a delightful place to spend the day. The food at Aralia House offshore Grill was excellent. Again, special mention to all the staff at the restaurant including Jadine, Tasha, Susan and Shrine. Great people that made our time on the island that little bit special. If you are thinking of going to Royal Bahamian don’t worry about the negative comments, your holiday is what you make of it. We had an absolutely wonderful stay. Read less
