The best time to visit Phuket is during the dry season, from November to March, when the island enjoys plenty of sunshine, calm seas and perfect beach weather.

Even better - Virgin Atlantic will launch direct flights from London Heathrow to Phuket from October 2026, making it easier than ever to swap the British autumn chill for Thailand’s tropical warmth.

For a truly relaxing escape, we suggest at least 5 to 7 nights in Phuket. That gives you time to unwind on the beach, explore some of the island’s highlights and perhaps take a side trip.

If time allows, 10 to 14 nights let you combine calm beach days with excursions and a slower pace. With Virgin Atlantic Holidays, you can choose the length that suits your rhythm.

Phuket has a spot for every kind of traveller, whether you want lively nightlife, family-friendly beaches, or total relaxation.

And with Virgin Atlantic Holidays, you’ll also find hand-picked hotels in other stunning parts of the island.

Phuket is packed with things to see and do beyond its beautiful beaches. Spend a day exploring Phuket Old Town, with its colourful streets, cafés and markets, or visit Big Buddha and Wat Chalong Temple for a taste of local culture.

If you’re after adventure, try a boat trip around Phang Nga Bay or snorkelling in crystal-clear waters. Back on land, unwind with a Thai cooking class, enjoy a sunset cocktail by the sea, or indulge in a spa treatment at your resort.

Whether you’re looking for culture, cuisine, or calm, Phuket offers the perfect mix - and with Virgin Atlantic Holidays, you can tailor your trip to include as much (or as little) activity as you like.

Getting around Phuket is easy and part of the fun. Many resorts offer shuttle services to nearby beaches or towns, while taxis and local ride-hailing apps are great for short journeys. For a little adventure, you can hire a driver for the day to explore at your own pace.

Good question - here are some essentials:

  • Light, breathable clothing for the tropical climate.
  • Swimwear, beach shoes/sandals, sun-hat and strong sunscreen.
  • A light rain jacket if you’re travelling during the shoulder or monsoon months.
  • Respectful clothing (shoulders and knees covered) if you plan temple visits.
  • Adapter for UK plugs (Thailand uses 220 V, 50 Hz).
  • A small day-bag for excursions.

Currency: the local currency is the Thai Baht (THB). Credit cards are accepted in many places, but it can be helpful to carry some cash.

Visa: many nationalities can enter Thailand under a visa-exemption for up to 30 days, but always check current rules before you travel. Find out more here.
