From the famous South Beach to the quieter areas of golden sand, Miami is full of beaches to explore - all with their unique qualities. So here's a quick guide to some of the main ones...

Famous for its energy, hip nightlife, palatial homes and beautiful people, this is ‘the’ place to be when visiting Miami. During the day you can watch models, vintage cars and rollerbladers parade past, whilst you sit back and relax at one of Ocean Drive’s trendy outdoor café’s
This is what Miami is known for - it's iconic strip of bars, restaurants, hotels and shops facing the beach, where you can stay, dine and play to your hearts content, at all hours! It's colourful, it's fun, and you're sure to have a good time.
This is one of the most unique shopping districts in the world. An 8 block long pedestiran mall that's full of stunning buildings, famous shopping brands and cute boutique stores - so it's perfect for a browse. There's also plenty of restaurants and cafes to stop off at along the way too.
To continue the theme of shopping, eating and drinking - South Beach also has Espanola Way, which is modelled on the Mediterranean villages of Spain and France. So as well as shops and eateries, you'll also find flamenco dancing, yoga classes and local markets to enjoy.
Of course, when we're talking about South Beach, we can't forget the actual beach itself. When you're not busy wandering the streets, the beach is obviously a great place to relax. You'll still find a lively atmosphere here, so expect plenty of goings on as it's always pretty busy!
Located between 24th and 60th street, mid beach takes you slightly out of the manic South Beach but still offers plenty of restaurants, bars, and even it's own arts district. Running, walking, beachcombing, people-watching or snorkelling are just a few of the activities available - or you can do nothing but lie in the sunshine and soak up the warmth
This is a neighbourhood rooted in the arts, stretching between 32nd and 36th street. Full of tropical decor and modern artwork, the district promotes cultural inclusiveness for the community. There are events on across the area throughout the year but Faena theatre is definitely worth a visit, which hosts live musical performances as well as Faena's original productions.
Apt for it's name, Mid Beach offers a mix between the cool, lively atmosphere of South Beach and the serene nature of North Beach - and both of these are easily accessible. There are some beautiful beachfront hotels to stay at here - notably Fontainebleau and Eden Roc.
Just north of 46th street is this hidden gem that's perfect for a family beach day. There's an aquatic playground, climbing acvtities and also plenty of shade if needed! It's surprisingly uncrowded and quiet, but it's also connected to the beachwalk where you can rollerblade, cycle or stroll the entire stretch of Miami Beach.
Beyond the beach, located in line with Mid Beach but on the Indian Creek side, you can get into the swing of things at Miami Beach Golf Club. This 18-hole par-72 course offers beautiful views, lined with palm trees and water features. And if not all of your group are golf fanatics, the rest of you can enjoy a drink and spot to eat in the restaurant whilst you wait!
Offering much more of a leisurely pace, North Beach is the place to chill out, enjoy relaxing, and taste some brilliant food. Plus, it's easy to wander down the beach to the livelier areas when you fancy...
A chilled evening with some local music and a relaxed vibe is on the cards here. Located beachside in the Historic District, this open-air ampitheater is worth checking out for an evening.
A low-key, small beach town vibe is the feel here, and it's a lovely area for families to chill out, play, and enjoy the views of the Atlantic Ocean in front of them. Located between 78th and 87th street, this is a crowd-free place that is ideal for a relaxing day.
Not only will you find a great variety of food and drink options in North Beach, but you'll also find that it's slightly more affortable too - which is always a bonus! Lots of the restaurants are centred around the historic Normandy fountain, Italian trattorias and Jewish delis, so you can embark on a trip around the world in one visit!
North Beach is a great place to start a cycle, rollerblade, jog or walk along the boardwalk as you won't have so many people to manoeuvre around! You could even make it all the way down to South Beach if you fancy a proper workout!
If you're into artistic murals, local tastes, and learning more about the history and culture of Miami you have to spend some time in the following neighbourhoods. Wander around, enjoy the cuisine, and take in the atmosphere that makes Miami such a dynamic destination.
Miami's vibrant Cuban heart
This neighbourhood is centred around Calle Ocho, on Southwest 8th St, and is a full of colourful murals, Latin-inspired restaurants, cigar shops, art galleries, rum bars and music venues - so it's a great place to visit for anyone coming to Miami. Maximo Gomez Park is a famous hotspot - where you can gather to meet locals and enjoy a game of dominos.
Non-stop energy and colour
Situated just north of Downtown Miami, and west of Miami Beach, this area has recently become one of the hippest hangouts in Florida as what was once a collection of warehouses has been transformed into contemporary art galleries, trendy bars and independent boutiques. If you're looking for some great Instagram photos, this is the place for it!
Whilst the beaches in Miami are indeed beautiful, we all love exploring a new city too right? Downtown Miami and Brickell form the urban centre of Miami, where culture and history meets industry and entertainment. So if you're after more of a city break vibe, staying or visiting these ares are a must. Or it's the perfect stopover pre or post cruise, with everything on hand nearby!
Glittering buildings over the bay
A hub of international finance, dining and entertainment that no visitors should miss. The towering buildings make a great backdrop to Bayfront Park and Bayside Marketplace, which are lovely areas to wander, dine and shop. You can rent a bike to explore the streets, or you've got the Metromover, a free air-conditioned train, to take you from A to B. Don't forget to make time for the Miami Observation Wheel with it's panoramic views from nearly 200 ft high!
The urban core of the city
Brickell is where work and party come together - and it's one of Miami's hottest neighbourhoods. Full of plenty of cool restaurants and high rise buildings, you'll feel a little like you're in Manhattan here. By day, enjoy shopping in Brickell City Centre, and by night order yourself a cocktail at one of the many rootop bars on offer. It's an area that'll have you wanting to come back for more, that's for sure.
If you're after a laid-back vibe, Coconut Grove could be the place for you. An upscale, leafy neighbourhood - this is great for leisurely strolls, coffee by the water and a bit of shopping.
CocoWalk is an open-air shopping mall that will have you wanting to splurge, and then you can visit the historic Barnacle State Park - the oldest residence in the county.
