Image of the Tripadvisor rating I would not recommend it. Hidden charges and lack of kettle/tap water. Now, location is prime and cleaners, wonderful.

The negatives were plenty: I'm glad I am not the only one that mention hidden charges: right off the back, 350 dollars "in case we break something." I'm still waiting for the refund, as we didn't break anything. The room and bathroom were big, but we had no kettle, no tea, no coffee, NOT EVEN TAP WATER TO FILL OUT OUR WATER BOTTLES. I'm still waiting for the refund, as we didn't break anything. The room and bathroom were big, but we had no kettle, no tea, no coffee, NOT EVEN TAP WATER TO FILL OUT OUR WATER BOTTLES. There is a very small, very inadequate shop, in which we could have 'included' 15 dollars worth of goods PER ROOM. That wouldn't even cover the saddest tuna nicoise salad I've ever seen (which was 17 dollars before tax). They also treat guests like a number. The positives: The cleaning staff: Our room always looked pristine. LOCATION. There is a door directly to/from Grand Central station, and our room had an amazing view: we were directly opposite the Chrysler Building. Opposite we had a McDonalds, handy because of lack of tap water, kettle, tea, coffee, etc...The beds were huge and comfy, The lobby is huge, and the common bathrooms were always clean. Read less

Staff were great. Rooms were very clean and a good size. We knew about the tourist tax fee so it wasn’t a surprise. Used the $15 a day for snacks. The Commodore Lounge was a great place to chill out away from the crowds. We had two teenagers with us who loved it. The location is unbeatable and the Grand Central Terminal is next door with a… Read more

I was a bit worried about our stay after reading some of the reviews but we had nothing to worry about. I was a bit worried about our stay after reading some of the reviews but we had nothing to worry about. Yes - there is a high destination tax at this hotel but its not hidden, they are open about it, and its on their website. I do think its high though and not sure how it is justified. $45.89 per night BUT we were well aware before we visited we would need to pay it. Remember though your refundable security deposit, $100 per night again, I thought this was high. I actually got a credit card specifically for this reason as I was concerned this and the tax would massively impact my budget. There is a $4 luggage charge, again, its not hidden and its cheaper than paying the late check out (which was about $150 -170 to check out at 3pm - sorry I can't remember the actual cost) You get a $15 credit per day to use in their little shop. I actually liked the shop, yes some of the stuff were expensive (sandwiches 15-17$) but you mayaswell use the credit. Get some water/fruit/crisps. it's very easy to go over the amount though, so just be careful, it doesn't carry over to the next day. The room itself was a good size. I shared with my teenage son and we didn't feel we were in each others way, there was a big tv, plenty of USB ports (next to the bed which was great for charging phones), our room was directly in front of the Chrysler Building. The window opened slightly and we didn't find it too noisy from the street traffic. Air con was a god send during the very hot weather we faced. The shower was very good, easy to use and easy to set to the needed temperature. The bed was very comfortable too. There is a direct entrance from Grand Central terminal - from the station go down Lexington Passage and you will see the entrance. This was locked on our arrival so we did have to walk around. Not sure what time it closes. The location is excellent, there was an abundance of taxis outside all the time and its a 15 minute walk (and i'm slow) from Times Square (very easy walk) and around the corner from Bryant Park and the Library. We didn't use the restaurant/bar though at the hotel but there is a CVS at the top of the street not even a 2 minute walk (leave the hotel turn left and walk up the street) other side of the road which is good for stocking up on any snacks, toiletries, drinks etc. I recommend Pershing Square opposite the hotel for breakfast. We found the staff helpful and check in and out was quick and easy. I'd happily stay here again. Read less

POSITIVES: Central location, friendly staff. NEGATIVES: rooms need maintenance, had to ask for fresh sheets when we checked in, very dirty ac vent, not enough outlets to charge devices, bathroom needs a deep clean, overall very dated and needs updating

We stayed here for 3 nights booked with British Airways. We arrived at around 6pm and head to the check in desk. Firstly, nobody welcomed us. Stood there for about 10mins while they chatted and looked on their phones. When called to the desk, again, zero hospitality, we felt more like an inconvenience. When providing our details we were told there was no booking under our name. We showed the reservation confirmation, all the details with the room, dates, payment etc from BA. After about 30mins of them just clicking away, the manager arrived and told us no booking is there and to call BA. I told them why should I? I have a confirmation, a booking number, why don’t they call them. Worth reminding that I am there with my two young children, in New York with the possibility of having nowhere to stay on a public holiday (4th July) After panicking I managed to get hold of someone at BA and they then spoke to the hotel. This was now about 3am UK time, we were knackered and had to order and eat McDonald’s in the lobby. All this time not a single one of the staff could care less. If I had someone come to me with this situation I would do everything to sort it out, instead we were left in the cold. Finally the manager came back over and told us we’d be put in a suite for the night and then have to move the next day. We were put in a massive suite, but it was so run down. I would be gutted if I actually paid for this upgrade as I stayed in nicer travelodges. No beds for the kids on arrival (these arrived about 30mins later and were more like hospital beds). But finally, at around 5am UK time (almost being up for 24hrs) we got some sleep. The hotel location is good, but the shop is crazy expensive. Two beers and some bananas was about 50 dollars. Again, reception staff were just plain rude and the hotel had nothing else to offer than outdated and dirty rooms. We never saw the bar actually open and not really sure why we paid a 90 dollar destination fee… If anyone reads this from Hyatt (which by the looks of the other reviews they don’t), sort your staff out. Hire people that care, have basic levels of customer service and respect and this hotel could be great. So don’t book here, look elsewhere and don’t let the location be the thing to draw you.
